Christmas is a joyous time of year full of baubles, handmade ornaments, family traditions and good food. My sisters and I had matching handknit Christmas Stockings made by Mrs. Katterman. Hanging the stocking on the mantelpiece was a special part of each Christmas eve.

As a knitter, there is no other kind of Christmas Stocking to hang. Sure, handsewn and quilted stockings are nice but they just aren't the same as a knit stocking. Waking up on Christmas morning, seeing a sock stretched out with a pile load full of gifts - what a wonderful childhood memory.

My second collection of Christmas Stockings is COLORFUL to say the least. The fun thing here is that if you aren't a fan of Fair Isle Stranded Colorwork, you can still make colorful Christmas Stockings. This is a perfect collection FOR A BEGINNER and you can build your skills as you try each design. The stockings are knit in worsted weight yarn. ONLY ONE COLOR OF YARN IS USED IN A ROW OR ROUND.

Kristin's Colorful Christmas Stockings pattern includes a 18 photos, 5 How-To Illustrations and complete instructions for 5 different stockings. Here's the run-down....

•Pom Poms and Stripes - great for the first timer
•Stripes Both Ways - clever use of 2 color garter stitch produces vertical striped cuff.
•Simple Cable - an easy cable pattern for you cabling fans
•Diamond Cable - a bit trickier cable making a lovely diamond design
•Skinny Stripes - just what The Whos in Whoville need for their mantel.

Skill Level: For beginning and intermediate knitters; uses double pointed needles; includes 5 illustrations, 18 project photographs

Besides several colors of worsted weight yarn, you will need a set of 4 double pointed needles in US sizes 5 (3.75 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm), a blunt-pointed tapestry needle for embroidery, and a pom pom maker (optional).
