Knit PDF - Felted Pen and Pencil Cozies Download
I cannot think of a better way to start the new school year, the new week, or the day than by writing a note with a pen or pencil wrapped in a sleeve of squishy fibers. I was inspired to design this very quick to knit project by the pens at Walker Farm in Dummerston, Vermont where I shop for plants every spring. Their pens were topped with plastic flowers.
I envisioned my version in felted knitting. I've included 4 different flower designs. For pencils, there is a hole for the eraser to poke through. As the pencil grows shorter with sharpening, trim the cozy to fit the pencil. For stick pens, I added a flower center.
These make great gifts for kids, teachers, and friends at any time of year. Why not knit your LYS a pen cozy for them to keep near the cash register!
I used a worsted weight wool yarn for my cozies. You MUST USE A WOOL OR WOOL BLEND YARN that is at least 85% wool for the object to felt. Do not use a superwash yarn as it has been treated NOT TO FELT.
Skill Level: For beginners; includes 7 project photographs, 1 how-to illustration, and additional tips and suggestions. Finished Sizes: Flower sizes will vary depending on the yarn, needles, and degree of felting.
Notions: Two double pointed needles in US size 9 (5.5 mm); blunt-pointed tapestry needle; stitch holder for sunflower cozy; 1/4" (0.6 cm) diameter vinyl tubing from the hardware store; 4" (10 cm) cotton waste yarn per cozy; sharp-point needle with a large eye; and pencils and pens
